My ageing Linn Karik CD player had a major problem – the CD tray wouldn’t open! I found Jim’s company mentioned in a Linn forum, and discovered that this was a not uncommon problem, and that Jim had carried out similar repairs for others, with good results.
I contacted him several months ago to see if I could send the Karik to him, as I am living in France. Unfortunately lockdown here intervened and it was not possible to send recorded delivery items over 20EUR (even after all this time, the Karik is still worth quite a bit above that figure!), so everything went on hold. But a few weeks ago the restrictions were lifted, and I sent the Karik to Jim. I received the Karik back a few days ago and it works like a dream. As well as replacing the parts that had failed, it was given a thorough clean, lubricated and generally given a new lease of life. All at a very good price, especially considering what a unit of comparable quality would cost to source.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Jim’s services to anyone seeking hi-fi repairs, particularly if – like me – you think your component might not be repairable. Jim seems to be able to work miracles! . Good communication, qulity workmanship, and sensible pricing. What’s not to like?

Had my technics amp in this place was in 3 months apparently had a couple of capacitors replaced and dry solder joints done on intitial contact. I was told a board was badly charred on the power circuit so contradicts what I was later told about a couple of capacitors replaced at a cost of PS124?? on pick up was told email of invoice would be emailed still waiting and made phone calls and left messages for invoice to be sent still nothing so my amp I’m going to have independently checked and a. Report done of what work has been done if its found not to be done I will get my solicitor involved in this matter ignoring customers is not a good thing

my Sony earbuds could get their inside batteries replaced, which was an easy task to do.
I know the owner of JSL is a brilliant, experienced and talented technician so I was really disappointed when he told me he didn’t deal with headphones.
I’m giving four stars because -I repeat myself- the guy is an excellent technician but I was really upset hearing what he said to me.
