I can recommend James and his business, Elm Tree IT Solutions, enthusiastically and with no reservations whatever. He spent fully two hours with me, in a remote session, solving complicated problems with my home computer, and I was amazed at how efficient, knowledgeable and intuitive he was in figuring out how best to solve things. I happen know three young or young-ish persons on six-figure salaries working for META, Google, and (my nephew) in an independent Australian IT firm specialising in ‘Big Data,’ and I would be very surprised if any of them knows how to navigate through computer problems better than James. I’ll say it again: I was amazed.

It was also of no small comfort to me, as a person Of A Certain Age and by no means an expert in computers, that he was very patient and clear, with lovely manners on the phone. He very clearly and efficiently talked me through how best to set up this remote session, which was in itself problematic at first because my computer did not have enough disk space to download the software required to give him remote access. (My C-drive had Zero bytes left!) Once we got through that problem, he was in control of navigating through the computer and we flew right along.

I believe that James has numerous business clients and over a hundred people like me who have appealed to him as it were privately for help. He can do ‘data recovery,’ networking, solve problems with hard-drive confusions like mine, problems with wireless connections — everything, really, except making what he calls ‘board-level repairs.’ He is highly skilled in taking hardware apart, I gather — he builds all his own computers — and if required, he has a person on the fringe of his business who can tackle other hardware problems at reasonable prices.

Speaking to him about his experience, I learned that he has been interested in computers, working (and playing) with them since he was four-years-old. He has worked as a games-designer, an in-house advisor for problem-solving at a larger firm than his own, has had formal training and a three-year apprenticeship in this kind of work, all before setting up his own business. James provides excellent service. The only downside is that he doesn’t always reply to phone messages, but ring his doorbell and you will find that he knows you were coming. My computer was running slowly, as they do, and he found it needed a new drive. He suggested a very cheap upgrade which resulted in it responding instantly to any click. I have used him several times, and he always explains very clearly what he has done and charges a reasonable price. We are lucky to have him!
