Update, it’s 16th July and you still haven’t made any attempt to follow my suggestions to make disabled people with their service animals welcome on your premises.
Try again… as the shop owners previous reply had inaccuracies. This might be that he is unsure how to liaise with customers who come in with their assistance dog. I’ll go through procedure at the end.
Shops have a duty of care to people with assistance dogs by law.. shops are required to allow people with assistance dogs in. They are not pets…they are there to accompany disabled people, they are a tool to help disabled people in their life….
I called to have a battery replaced in my watch… he saw my assistance dog, and asked me to leave while he fixed the watch. I pointed out his leads clearly displaying he is an assistance dog.. still he asked me to wait outside, so as to not cause trouble, I did wait outside. He brought it out and gave me change. The issue is not with the shop in general, but customer service. I understand not everyone likes dogs, but to make someone stand out side is unacceptable… perhaps the owner wasn’t aware of correct procedure…
Any shop owner can ask you to take your dog out if it’s just a pet….once they’ve ascertained it is in fact an assistance dog, the shop owner has to leave them alone, making them go outside is a breach of disibility discrimination laws…The Equality Act 2010 says that you must not be discriminated against… it might be the shop owner was not aware of the above, in which case, I forgive him for being unaware, and hope he will bear this in mind in the future.
Thanks for replying to my review, once again your reply has inaccuracies, hence needing updating…
A question for you…. you state my service dog was not under control…and I was allegedly “Tugging at his leash” when in fact he has two leads on him not one, displaying he is a service dog, he has two leads not a “leash” at all times…. then you incorrectly state he was running around the shop .. you also incorrectly state he was “scurrying around” and scratching at your counter…. how can this be ? How can he be running/scurrying around, and on a “leash” at the same time..?? It is of course a conundrum….
I was made to feel highly unwelcome, entirely due to having a ‘dog’ with me, your approach to me changed completely once you saw I had a ‘dog’ with me…as soon as you saw him, you said straight away…’You’ll have to wait outside’.
I mentioned what he was, but still you made me wait outside, as I said previously, fortunately it wasn’t raining, you seemed to have made an issue of us being on your premises.
My dog has been trained not to be a nuisance in shops, I carry an assistance dog I.D. card with me to show what he is.
Can I suggest, to show you have no issues with service animals along with their owners, as you state in your reply, You please put in your window a big sign,
“Service/Disabilities dogs welcome on our premises at all times”
Can I also suggest you highlight your need to include all members of society, including those with disabilities and their animals, by photographing your sign, and put it on your social media for all to see. I do pass by regularly, and whilst trying not to fall over all your goods you leave on the pavement, I still haven’t seen any such sign.
Called to the shop next door 30th June 2024…still trying to navigate past all your items left on the pavement…. and still waiting for a sign that welcomes disabled people and their assistance dogs in your shop. It’s highly clear you have no intention of doing so. Total discrimination.
In a nut shell I would seriously proceed with caution if you want to use this company.
This is my reply to your reply where did I swear or threaten bad reviews your just lying so you don’t have to part with money never offered the discount replacement when I was in the shop though did you told me I had to wait an hour for the guy to come in yet he was hiding down I the basement so that was the first lie you told
