Sadly I was extremely disappointed with my first (I think) visit to Merthyr CEX and my experience there as a customer.
I was trading in 80+ DVD’s, Blu-rays & Games and it took over 30 minutes for the member of staff to scan them and give me a price.
If I’d turned around and said no I’ll take them back it would have taken him another 10/15minutes to put the discs all back in the cases and give them back.
Ideally the staff should be scanning everything, checking disc quality and leaving the bagging up of each disc till after the customer has accepted the price, having a customer waiting for 30 minutes instead of 5 maybe 10 minutes is simply bad service especially when I could simply say no I want my items back.
Now the overall price was a little lower than I’d expected but I did accept the price, but after seeing the breakdown with most DVD’s being accepted for 1p I’d have taken those back and sold them privately if I’d known prior to accepting the offer.
The other two members of staff simply chatted to themselves and the gent serving me made no attempt to make conversation with me, but would often join in with the other two members of staff and their conversation.
It even took a few minutes for the one member of staff to stop talking in the corner to notice there was a customer waiting behind me.
The store looked clean and tidy and well presented, apart from 2 of the display tv’s that weren’t operating (weirdly seems to be an issue in almost every CEX I’ve been in even the one I used to manage lol)
Staff may be pleasant enough but they barely said a word to me so who can tell? Personally I’d put the service down as very poor but maybe I’m being harsh because I’ve run a CEX and expected better service from my staff.
The first was a laptop back in 2022, almost new as hardly used but told there were issues with the memory – I sold it on ebay a few days later and had no complaints from the buyer.
Today I took my previous mobile phone (only selling because I upgraded) which was in great condition but told the charging port was slightly bent when they were cleaning it – I’ve not had any issues with the handset since I purchased it just over 2 years ago so find it hard to believe that now theres suddenly a problem with it.
The mobile is now on ebay and I won’t be wasting my time visiting this store.
