My friends birthday was upcoming and we had all decided to come together and buy him a new microphone since his was broken. So we walked to the Best Buy to see if they had it in stock. Immediately as we walked in a worker (who I can tell guessed we were thieves based off our ages) “greeted’ us and asked us what we were here for, sounding extremely passive-aggressive. He handed us over to another worker, in which we were unsuccessful of finding the microphone, but decided on buying another one. Behind us, was the original worker, from a distance, staring at us and reporting to his walkie-talkie. We still had leftover money to buy him another gift, and so we walked around the store, and there the worker kept following us from a distance and looking at us. After some time of walking around and finding gifts to buy, my friend decided on getting some LED lightbulbs. There were several, and it was hard to carry, so we put them in a bag that we had gotten from shopping from a previous store. After a change of mind, he had decided to put him back, and then it was the *same* worker who walked up to him watching him transfer the lightbulbs from his bag to the display.
He then located us, bringing our friend and telling us if we still wanted to buy the mic, in an even more passive-aggressive tone, telling us that it was a “bad idea” to put things you haven’t bought in a bag. After we said we still wanted to buy the mic, he didn’t let us go, and instead escorted us to the checkout, not letting us look for more things to buy, which was extremely rude. In the end, we decided on not buying the microphone. At the end, he asked us why we didn’t follow through with the purchase, I said it was because the customer service and how we were being treated was horrible, and all he replied with was a broad apology, before he left the store. I found it extremely stupid that we were stereotyped as thieves and not actual customers. So after that failed attempt, we went to the mall, and by chance the Best Buy Express had the microphone we wanted, and no worker suspected us of stealing, and the person we were working with was extremely cooperative, and we were in and out the store with the microphone we wanted in under a minute. The whole scenario could’ve been dodged if the workers at this Best Buy saw us as actual customers and not thieves. If I could give this place a zero star rating, I would.
The Team Lead of Operations gave me his business card and put a phone number on it where I could reach him. The phone number he gave me is Not In Service! I have emailed him at the email address on his business card with no answer from him! I am a 78 year old senior who feels I have been taken advantage of. I was very firm in indicating not to sign me up for anything.
Very, very poor business practice! There has to be a more efficient way to get hold of someone who actually knows what they are doing!
Edit: After many phone calls, emails and trips to the Best Buy Store on Stony Plain Rd in Edmonton, my issue has been resolved. Thank you
