Used to love this place but they have been marking up prices for a while now. Games and consoles are being sold at new prices despite the fact everything is pre-owned. The worst of it is PS5s are being sold above RRP. At the time of writing, a PS5 disc edition is being sold at PS695 whereas Sony has stated since release they are RRP PS449. Many second hand retailers are doing this but even a minute walk to cash converters and they have PS5s for PS649.99. (I would wait to get a new one online as you will he saving PS200).

Games are the same, the digital stores, cash converters (a minute walk down the road) and even Game down the high street are selling cheaper than CEX. If I wanted a good deal I used to come here, everything is being sold at same prices as brand new now so I tend to avoid it as I know I can get it cheaper elsewhere very easily.

The only games sold are also pre-owned yet there never any offers on them. For example, Game has pre-owned games in offers like 3 for 2 or 3 for PS20 etc, yet CEX never has anything like this. Just feels like a waste to come here now as I never find myself buying anything.

Edit: 2 years later and still unimpressed with the prices of most of the games and returns policy. I have browsed but have bought maybe 2 games from them in the past 6-12 months. I used to always go to cex for games and tech but now it’s cheaper to buy directly from Sony or Nintendo or even Amazon. I just bought Tekken 8 for PS5 from Amazon for PS39.99 brand new whereas cex are selling pre-owned for PS42.00. Amazon will allow me to return my game within 28 days, full refund, no problem. Cex will only allow me to return my game within 48 hours and ONLY offer store credit, no matter how you pay (unless it’s faulty or you buy from them online which adds an extra PS2.95 for delivery per item – 2nd class costs PS2.70 for a large letter so again overcharging), and you have to remember someone had the item before you and it could well be damaged. Ridiculous return policy and crazy high prices for pre-owned stock.

Great shop. It has a very casual feel which is good. There is always a large selection of things to choose from. The only reason for 4 stars instead of five is that these prices can range from fair, to great and then to downright rip-off.

I do go regularly to find a bargain. But I wouldn’t steep to some of the prices you get for trade-ins and purchases.

I don’t want to be too negative however, as I said, they can have some great bargains and the staff are always very nice and seem to always be in a good mood.

I prefer to go to cex than cash converters for my kids games because they have a better selection. The only thing I would say is their prices are not that great. Sometimes it is just as cheap to buy the game new than it is to buy it 2nd hand from here. The only advantage is if you trade a game in you may save something.
