I took two Steam Decks in to sell. The cashier gave them a quick inspection and estimated they would be grade A quality, saying that CeX would buy them from me for PS424, which I was happy to accept as it wasn’t much less than what I had paid for them brand new from Valve. A couple of days later, I got a voicemail from Dave at the shop, who told me that he had inspected the Steam Decks and would have to downgrade them to a Grade B, due to small scratches near the charging port on one of them and signs that a sticker had been placed on the back of each unit.

I can tell you now that both units are in excellent condition. The scratches are TINY, barely perceptible. You would not spot them unless you were looking for them and even then, they are very hard to see unless you hold it up in a certain light. As for the “signs of a sticker” having been on the back (I put the sticker on each noting my children’s emails and Steam IDs so they didn’t forget them), this is something that would very easily clean off with the right cleaning agent. Anyway, because of these so-called “imperfections”, Dave said that he had no choice but to re-quote the buying price as PS388, which is, frankly, an insult.

The next day I went into the shop to collect my Steam Decks, as I was not prepared to accept such a low price and upon handing over my receipt, they brought the boxes out from the shelves at the back. As they did so, I just so happened to notice that they had already put the sale prices on them at PS530 (they were probably anticipating that I was going to accept their offer). This immediately got my back up and I said to the cashier, “Oh I see, so they’re Grade B when you’re buying them, but Grade A when you’re selling them?”

At this point, Dave chimed in from his little cupboard at the rear of the counter and told me how he’d tested them and found them not to be in mint condition, quoting the company’s terms and conditions that they would have to be in mint condition to be considered Grade A. I will admit, they are not in MINT, brand spanking new condition, but they are in EXCELLENT condition as they were barely used by my children. Any other seller would class them as Grade A. Anyway, me and Dave had a bit of a back and forth, which culminated in my asking why, if they were not Grade A, they were going to sell them at Grade A prices as evidenced by the stickers they had prematurely placed on the top of each box. He had nothing to say. Surely, if they were still going to sell them at top dollar, they could have given me the price they originally offered, but no.

These guys are a bunch of crooks, finding any excuse to increase their profit margins and give you as little as they can for your goods. I will never sell anything to them again and will probably never buy anything from them either. They have lost a customer for life. On top of all that, they have also damaged the boxes of my Steam Decks by ripping off the original dispatch labels, which they should not have done until I had confirmed either way whether I was selling them or not. At the end of the day, this was atrocious customer service, plain and simple.

if i could give less than 1 star i would, just in the last couple weeks the service has been atrocious for me, first of all, i went to buy a steering wheel for my PS5 which i did, they then put it in the bag and i didn’t think anything of it i trusted them knew what they were doing, got home i noticed they gave me the wrong thing, and then when i took it back no less than an hour later, i had to wait nearly an hour for it to be tested again, however i do understand that’s just there policy, but i then took my laptop to them to sell, and they took it did there tests or whatever and wiped the computer memory, along with MacOS and failed the computer because they didn’t know how to redownload it, given i didn’t at first but all it took was one google search and id done it, so i took it back to sell again the next day, i then leave it with them again, and 3 days went by, no phone call to say it’s failed, and no money into my bank, so i went in and asked what the situation was, where i was then told it had failed again because, guess what? they deleted MacOS AGAIN and didn’t know how to download it. Absolutely terrible service, and customer service itself apart from one person who’s name unfortunately i didn’t get, however i will never be back, rather go cashconverters.

i highly recommend you steer very clear of this place.

Experience wasn’t great. There appeared to be 5 staff working, one serving me, two in the back doing something, and two just chatting! The queue wasn’t big or anything but if one of those two who were chatting actually served me then it could’ve been quicker. The only guy running the tills couldn’t have been more helpful, he got me a game from the back that wasn’t on display. But while I was being served, one of the people who was in the back stood at the gate waiting to be let behind the till because he got locked out, but didn’t think to ask the two people chatting to let him in. And then he proceeded to serve the next customer in the queue which annoyed me because if he had asked to be let behind the till sooner then that person could have been served a lot quicker. Staff couldn’t care less.
