The item in question, a tablet, was sold at “Grade B”. I got it home as I couldn’t test it in-store owing to it having a flat battery. Upon first boot, there’s a large cluster of dead/damaged pixels on the display. I returned it to store first thing the very next day and was told there is nothing wrong with it and they will pass it as a “Grade B”.
But here’s the irony of that, as I have sold items to CEX in the past and they’ve always found an excuse to mark anything down from “Grade A” – Even a brand new, sealed boxed and unused Pixel 8 Pro I tried to sell earlier this year was classed as “Grade B”.
Given how they are seemingly fussy to find any excuse to mark an item down to extort maximum profit, I am astounded a tablet with a clear defect/fault to the screen is passed at “Grade B”.
The condescending manager went onto explain at length how chips, scratches and cracks/dents to screens on tablets and phones don’t affect their buy in grade. What a pack of lies, because you can bet the last pound in your bank account if I had tried to sell this particular tablet they would have refused it.
She was also a **** over the return policy, encouraging me to try and take the device back and argue the toss with customer services at head office if I am unhappy with the score decision. I argued with her over this as I had only 24 hours left of the 48 hour “return window”. The manager confirmed if the response takes longer from their main customer services and falls outside 48 hours, my only option then is to sell them back the item at it’s current buy price (which is 60% less than I paid for it) if I still didn’t want it.
Finally to add to this store’s total lack of tolerance and clear motive to scam money, she said if I refused a voucher or refuse to take the item back, the store has every right to class it as “abandoned” after 14 days and they will re-sell it. I said if I take the voucher I’ll put it on eBay as I’ve no desire to send any further money with them. I was abruptly reminded that selling store credit notes on eBay will get me banned from buying and selling to CEX (they’d be doing me a favour by deleting my account).
Overall, I’d avoid these con artists at all costs as they’ll worm their way out of any issue or liability. There’s always a way they place the blame back on the customer once they have your money, as you are never getting a refund and they remind you of that multiple times. They are incredibly rude at this store and seem well rehearsed in customer dissatisfaction based on the managers textbook responses.
Trading standards should pay these clowns a visit. For everyone else looking to buy or sell, use Base-O next door to them, eBay or Facebook Marketplace.
Thought I would order and collect for efficiency. Nope, someone’s mistake has caused me stress and anxiety problems. All I was offered was an apology that nothing else could be done to help me. I did t even ask for a refund, I just wanted my order. The server did seem to be a little understanding, but the manager they had asked for support did not. He was actually quite rude. Maybe when I next brave the daunting 2 hour journey here, which is not fun with autism, I may give this place another chance.

If this is not fixed I swear on my life this is the last time I am buying from you and you can cancel my account. It is not the first time I get such service.
I bought 4 sticks of ddr4 ram on the 8th of March which I never ended up using. So, I went today 16/03/2024 at 12 at the Milton Keynes store where I bought them to return them to get something else with the return voucher.
For whatever reason they wanted to test them so I let the items to be tested. I came back, all good with the tests, had my receipts, everything good and you “people” offered me PS22 as a voucher instead of the full value of PS34! I was fuming as I know very well I were supposed to get the full value of them, not even 10 days passed since I bought them from you.
I was fuming and noone cared. I even spoke to the tester who seemed to be the more senior person there and your offer was PS22.
This is even illegal by law as it is under 14 days from when purchased for any business, every item as long as they are in as was condition and I have the receipt.
Absolute thieves!
