Joel has had possession of my beloved laptop, my personal property, and my PS145 payment for the screen repair for months now. We have had occasional contact in that occasionally he responds to one of my emails (not my sms messages or calls, though). Joel’s business address listed online does not exist – I know, I travelled to the street, and 190 literally does not exist. It is the address he listed on the invoice I paid, though, so… He most recently has claimed to suffer a T12 fracture (a quite serious injury), and that he would refund my money (not being able to procure the part from his parts distributor), and despatch the laptop by mail to me. The dates have come and gone, and he has done neither. After he has taken your money and property, his mobile number then becomes remarkably difficult to get through – often it appears not to be connected to the network. Joel is clearly technically competent, but I know stuff too, and something is simply not right in his business practices. Seriously, who puts what is essentially a made-up (fictional) address on the invoices they issue to customers? Whose business number is often off-loaded from the network? Who doesn’t call back, or do anything he says he will? If he genuinely has inexplicably a T12 spinal injury, I understand that will take significant healing, but it’s been *months*. I want my laptop back, and my money back. There is a paper trail, but as his invoice lists a business address that *literally does not exist*, and I bet his mobile number cannot be paper-traced to him, something must be afoot. This is not even his day-job, though he gives that impression in his online presence – he has a day-job employer, and he moonlights on-the-side as a repair technician. I know this, because he personally told me. Do not give him your device/machine, and do not give him your money unless you can be sure the identifiable contact details he has given you, will result in you tracking him down when he mosty probably never returns your hardware or money – for the present, AVOID.
Here is the Edit:
Joel seems to have had an injury that literally knocked him off his feet. He did return the laptop, having been unable to procure the screen (other repair engineers were also unable to, it must be noted. My laptop, though beloved, was an obscure make). The laptop seems to have been unharmed by it’s sojourn to Joel’s office . I have not had my money refunded yet, but I’m sure that is because in major part, I have not pursued it. He had a serious injury, from which I hope his recovery has been well. I should also note, I do believe his injury was real.
I also believe him to be technically competent; I can tell, as I have some personal bona fides to base my opinion on.
Ultimately, if my laptop had not been an obscure brand, I’m sure everything would have gone smoothly.
Could not thank Joel & Newport Computer Repairs enough! Trying to run a company throughout a global pandemic has proven hard enough without to terror that can be modern technology but as always joel was there to save the day.
My Laptops screen completely blanked and was extremely temperamental even whilst connected to a separate monitor. It was clear it needed repairing but I simply could not be without it for a few days it just wasn’t an option.
I gave Joel at Newport Computer Repairs a call on a friends recommendation and ask for a price and a timeframe and explained my desperate position.
Joel then gave me an alternative not only would he repair my screen he would also ensure I was not without my laptop, that same day after work hours he came out to my office and within 15 minutes had removed the screen and ordered the replacement. He then made sure I was still able to use laptop while I waited for the replacement.
Joel rang me around mid day 3 days later to inform me the replacement screen had arrived and to arrange it to be fitted, again the same evening he was back at my office replacing the screen which now works perfectly.
The flexibility from Joel who really went above and beyond for me ensured me to keep my business running smoothly while he got the job done at a really affordable price.
An absolute gentlemen and professional throughout.
Would recommend to anyone!
