I have had a freeSat receiver since 2011. Purchased from Currys with insurance. This guarantees unlimited repairs, no labour charges, and states “we will fix it or replace it, we won’t charge you, even if we can’t find a fault”. (Read it yourself, I’ve included a photo of it), With a service line 7 days a week.
Every payment has been taken by Currys and I had never claimed in the12 year I have paid the insurance.
A couple of weeks ago the HDD stopped working. So I called the service line to go through an automated line which went in circles then said ” the service centre is open Monday to Friday”. I sent an email and was told to take it into a store.
The next day, I took it to the Stevenage store, where I was told it’s too old to fix so we will give you a voucher for PS100, and you pay PS129, as a new unit the same spec is PS229. I explained that was not what the policy said. The answer was, that is all we will do as it was PS100 new. I explained that I wanted what they promised, a repair or another unit. That was what I paid for and that is what I expected. I have paid well over the cost of a new unit just in insurance over the last 12 years. I was told that they would have to contact their customer services, and would get back in 1 or 2 days. A week later and no email, so I again had to visit the Stevenage store. Explained it all again. They called their customer services unit. The answer was, “oh, the email got lost. Again, I was just offered the PS100 voucher.
As I had been without the unit for 2 weeks now and got nowhere, I had to accept the fact that they do not honour their own insurance, and pay the PS129 for a replacement. I can only conclude that their customer service is hopeless and the ‘whatever happens insurance’ is a complete con and not worth the paper it is written on.
After being a customer for many years, I find their treatment as a customer diabolical. I will be using their on line rival from now on. My advice would be don’t buy any type of insurance from this group.

Went there today just to buy a bottle of steamer detergent. There was nobody at checkout, below the big ‘Pay Here’ sign. Queued with 2 others for a few minutes, then went to the next nearest staff in the returns and collections queue. After a few more minutes asked a member of staff why there was nobody at checkout. He told me to join yet another queue at the far end of the store, with about 6 people in it. I challenged this and he said that’s normal when you are paying for goods. I said it’s normal to queue once where it says ‘Pay Here’.
Having already joined 2 queues I declined, and walked out.
I won’t shop there again until they sort out their service.

The service I received was excellent. I came in with no phone and not a clue about buying a phone as my mum had always done it for me, Michael helped me and answered every single one of my annoying questions, he had so much patience with me (I am awful when it comes to technology despite my young age, and Michael still was so patient and guided me through my purchase) absolute 10/10 customer service. I walked into the shop feeling worried that I’d be judged and ignored as I didn’t know what to ask, but he made sure to explain everything in great detail to me. Can’t be more grateful for his guidance
