I visited tonight after a lengthy call with customer service about a price match for a Nintendo Switch. I appreciate there has been a lot of publicity about this, hence my call to customer services first.
Their price match terms and conditions are explicit, and my call reinforced this. Effectively the product must be demonstratably in stock either online or in an alternative store within 10 miles, and must be the same product. A few other T&Cs apply around discount codes etc, but this is not applicable in this situation.
I decided I wanted to buy said product from Currys because I am able to pay in vouchers, rather than having to use cash if bought from Tesco.
I arrived in store and despite being able to clearly demonstrate the product is in stock at Gorton Tesco, Gary decided to go on a power trip and because his independent system (Tesco’s website) didn’t show this, they couldn’t match the price.
Now, I was showing Gary the Tesco app. I showed him live (so as to avoid any doubt that I may have a screenshot or anything altered) but he was steadfast in his ignorance that he was ignoring his own policies (which not only are written down but also on a recorded call I’d made with Currys not 30 minutes earlier). The reason the website doesn’t show it is because he was on the online ordering page, not the store stock check page.
At one stage he suggested there is a forum which there is talk of bargaining with them. No idea how this is relevant other than demonstrating that he is spending his shift on a forum and not working.
I did not want to bargain with him. I wanted him to get off his high horse (“I’ve been left to lock up tonight!”) and do his job.
I dared to asked for a way to complain and was shown a generic leaflet for how to get more ‘help’, or told to use Twitter? Brilliant.
Don’t bother with Currys, and definitely don’t bother with this store. No wonder they’re always empty.
