I thought it best to check with a member of the staff that the vouchers were still valid. The leaflet I got with them mentioned Currys but the website did not. I queued at the sales counter for around five minutes, eventually got my way to the front and then had a sales person confirm they did indeed accept them.
Off I go to the audio section. I find a pair of Sony headphones I like the look of but the stock is held onto the wall by a security tag. Another member of staff passes by, I ask him if I need to get somebody to unhook them or just ask at the counter.
“Yes” comes the reply as they charged off into the distance at pace.
Back to the sales counter I go but nobody is there. Figuring I have other business to attend to in other shops around the retail park I leave and come back about fifteen minutes later.
I queue at the main sales counter once more. Two people are buying items in front of me. They both leave, the two sales people at the counter then turn to each other before leaving and going onto the shop floor. They don’t say a word to me as they pass and I’m left looking at an empty counter again.
Not having all day I headed for the exit minus headphones and feeling very much like I’ve been completely ignored.
Why do Currys seemingly insist on making customers jump through so many hoops to complete the simple task of handing over money and buying a product?
I won’t be back.
Don’t get me wrong, the staff are great, but there’s not enough of them and they’re let down by the shop itself. I’ve never known any other shop where it’s almost impossible to buy what you want.
I can’t be the only person to have been through this. And it’s not a one-off, it’s every single time I’ve been there. I don’t think I’ve ever gone to Currys and left with what I came for.
It doesn’t matter what you want to buy – let’s say you need a tumble dryer – the one you want isn’t in stock anywhere in the country. And they aren’t expecting any deliveries any time soon. (Which begs the question – why is it on display?) Now comes an eternity of trying to get a different model and being told none of the ones you’ve seen are in stock – so you end up either leaving empty handed, or buying the only one in stock which costs twice as much as the one you wanted in the first place, just to get out of the place with your sanity intact.
