Took my Google Pixel 6 to be fixed here. After just over a year of no problems, it had cracked as I pushed a bag into a locker at the swimming pool. It had been dropped on the floor numerous times with no problems at all, but clearly I hit a sweet spot as I forced the bag in. I had been quoted PS290 two doors down, so when I was quoted PS190 here I accepted. Worst mistake I made, as the incompetence here ended up costing me more. He did prepare me for the fact that the fingerprint lock may not work, but said it ‘99% would work’.
The repair took days longer than I was quoted. He told my wife that the fingerprint lock was fine, however the option to use a fingerprint has completely vanished so this is obviously nonsense.
The next morning I noticed blue and purple spots on the screen. The phone was also constantly hot and the battery was discharging far quicker than before.
I took it back, explaining that the screen was faulty and that a replacement was required. The repairer accepted this and we agreed that he would call me when the replacement part had arrived.
No phone call ever came and, a few days later, the phone slipped from my hands. The screen cracked instantly in the place where the spots had appeared. As I stated before, I had dropped the old screen quite a few times over the year on a variety of surfaces and never had so much as a scratch. In hindsight, I suspect that the screen had been poorly installed, causing pressure on the underside of the screen that made it crack at a small trigger.
I took the phone back and explained what had happened. I pointed out that he had agreed to replace the screen anyway and asked him to honour that commitment. After berating me for not using a screen protector (never required before) and for not answering my phone when he called (nope, double checked my phone log and everything). He took the phone and told me to come back on Wednesday. There was no discussion of further payment.
When I did, he asked me to come back in an hour. I returned and he showed me that the replacement screen was not working and asked if there was any water damage I hadn’t told him about. I said no, and he fixed me with a a skeptical look, then said he would try to sort it.
Lo and behold, when I called on Friday it turned out it was yet another faulty screen. Went back the following Wednesday to be handed my (finally) fixed phone. As I turned to leave he called me back and asked me for another PS190. After a cyclical argument about what constitutes ‘broken’ in terms of a screen (not, according to him, covered in spots, hot to the touch and snapping on a hair trigger) I eventually agreed to just pay for the part and not the labour (PS150).
PS340 and three weeks to have a phone that doesn’t work as well as it did before (haggled down from PS380, mind).
I wasn’t going to bother writing this review, but on Sunday I picked up my phone in bed only to discover that there was give to the screen when I tapped on it and then I realised it was coming towards me! In other words, he’s not even managed to glue it in properly!
I refuse to step in that shop again so I took it to Speedyfix two doors down. The guy there said that it’s a rubbish knock off screen and refused to even stick it back in for me because he’s worried the glue will get into the screen and stop it working entirely.
Avoid like the plague and listen to the other negative reviews. I wish I had.
Dropped my phone and cracked my screen one morning on my way into work. Took it in to get my screen replaced and was charged PS120.00 to repair. Service wasn’t bad and new screen seemed okay at first.
However, as time went on and I went away on holiday the screen started to glitch out and on occasion would black out. This got worse as the week went on. It was clear it was a screen issue as everything else was working perfectly fine. Battery good, phone speed normal etc. I also kept the phone in perfect condition and took care of it the whole time since the screen was replaced. No dropping it, water damage, heat damage etc.
Soon as I got back from holiday I went straight to the shop to explain the issue. The man in the shop started to try and insinuate I could’ve dropped it again which I insisted I hadn’t and explained that I was being completely honest with how the phone had been treated and taken care of since I had it replaced. This annoyed me a bit, however, I understand he is doing his job and doesn’t want to be messed about.
After examining the phone he could clearly see it was just the screen that was an issue as after trial replacing it with a new one everything was working fine. No damages to the phone elsewhere. I even pointed out, which he recognised, that the original screen replacement I had been given had no cracks/dents etc.
Considering it was a faulty screen that had been used to replace my cracked screen or it had been replaced incorrectly, you would expect a shop of integrity and good customer service to just replace the screen. However, as it had been a week or so after their, “warranty policy”, they would not replace it and demanded another payment for a new screen.
Had I treated the phone with little care, or if this had happened 2/3 month later I would understand this. However, as I came in as soon as I could, was very respectful to the staff, and we were talking about a week or so after their “warranty policy”, AND this issue was completely at fault of the shop in the first place, I think this was extremely unprofessional and unfair treatment.
I had my screen repaired on an old phone a few years ago at another shop in Portsmouth that did not have any issues or result in me having to go back. I have also spoken to friends who have been able to have faulty screens of theirs replaced as late as 2 months after original replacement!
I would advise steering clear of this shop and going elsewhere to avoid being ripped off and messed about.
