I sent my Surface Pro 4 to The Repair Store to replace the battery. The battery was no longer holding a charge. I was also having problems using the mouse or touchscreen which seemed to resolve itself when I turned off the touchscreen.

In retrospect the battery was pushing against the touchscreen from behind. I had no idea what was happening until the battery expanded enough to separate the screen from the case. This completely disabled the touch screen and also caused the mouse and keyboard to not work properly. Clearly the battery was in danger of imminent failure.

I tried every repair shop in Calgary to get it fixed. Most would not touch an SP4 as they focused on smartphone repairs. The only local shop that would would fix it (who shall remain nameless) were difficult to deal with and cautioned that it was likely the screen would break while replacing the battery and that the cost to replace the screen would be to my account.

I packaged the computer and sent it off to The Repair Shop for repairs. It was fixed promptly for the price quoted (which was less than the Calgary shop’s quote for the battery) and returned in about a week. It is now nine months since I replaced the battery and it is still working perfectly.

I like to shop local when I can, but in this case The Repair Shop was superior in every aspect. Highly recommended for Surface repairs no matter where you are in Canada.

I work nearby so I decided to try this place recently to help me out with my Nintendo Switch (needed a right-side rail replacement, wasn’t detecting any joycons on that side). Alex was SO friendly, helpful, and affordably priced that I would recommend anyone visit if they need some personal electronic device repaired.

They already had the rail in stock and he did my repair right on the spot, so while I waited in a comfy chair and did some work e-mails from my phone (wi-fi is provided, just ask) I got to overhear a bunch of other customers interact with Alex on the phone or in person. He is friendly to everyone, and VERY understanding, even offering someone a loaner iPhone while he was replacing their screen.

Now that I have had this experience, I doubt I will ever go anywhere else in Toronto for such repairs…also the store’s selection of nifty retro games made for nice window shopping!

As an IT Professional, you don’t always use the main brands for tech like Apple/Google/Samsung. I had a battery bulge issue, and Alex was able to replace my OnePlus 7 Pro battery, like a ninja, in 10 minutes, having previously called ahead to order a replacement battery for me.

Alex and his team at Gamerama should be your first stop for any OnePlus/Microsoft/insert brand here repairs, before any of the “chain” repair stores in the GTA.

They also have a very good boy, a wonderful [and friendly!] Bernese mountain dog named Bernie, who greets any customers that walk in.
