A month ago, I had a crack in my iPhone 12
screen and took it to be inspected and repaired at iSmash in King’s Cross. What appeared to be a good service for an Apple iPhone 12 screen replacement (only 2 hours, non-genuine Apple parts were ca. PS100 cheaper than getting the screen replaced at Apple), turned out to be a waste of money and now I’m off worse than before.

Fast forward a month after the repair, I’m already on my second screen replacement from iSmash (first screen was faulty, second is still faulty) and would encourage everyone to spend a little extra to get a genuine Apple repair/replacement and get the job done properly. If you want to keep your iPhone working the way it was before, you will not achieve that with an iSmash screen replacement, as the difference is visible:

– Screen replacement No. 1: Phone seemed okay for about 2 days, then the screen started flashing at random, before it went completely unresponsive (image).

– Screen replacement No. 2 (compensation for previously faulty screen/installation at iSmash): Phone works only 90% of the time, but occasionally the screen freezes and flashes at random. For an iPhone that worked perfectly before the screen cracked, this is a reduced quality and I wish I had just gotten it repaired at Apple or an Apple certified repair shop.

Lesson learned 1: Think twice before wanting to save about PS100 by going to iSmash. They are not an Apple certified repair shop and you are effectively trading an Apple product for a faulty version of that same product. Not worth it for me in hindsight.

Edited: This post has been edited, as I’ve deleted my original post and replaced it now with a 2-star review. I was asked to leave a review instantly once I got my phone back and was happy back then. Unfortunately, my phone stopped working 2 days after, so I went back to correct the original 5-star review and bring it in line with my experience overall after 1 month. Lesson learned 2: Don’t get pressured into leaving a review right away for electronics, as it takes a few days to make sure everything works.

Was very happy with my battery replacement on a pixel 4a – good value and it’s great that I was able to book it in for a quick turnaround appointment on the day while I was on my way to London – the only way I could get it done without sending my phone away. However, they’ve lost two stars because they replaced the screen protector with a generic one and charged me PS10 for it – and after 10 days it’s already lost adhesiveness round the edges. Absolute rip-off.

Excellent service from here. I phoned them in the morning and, as they had the battery for my phone I booked a slot online and then phoned the shop to confirm. Went down there and it was fine in four hours. Ahsan, the technician explained that the battery change was quite quick but the post testing phase took time. Used genuine Samsung parts, it’s as water tight and dust tight as before and has a year’s guarantee. Would definitely recommend them.
