I took them a damaged laptop, hoping it might be repairable. They told me it was the graphics card that had gone, as I’d expected, but this was part of the motherboard on laptops, and that would cost around PS600, so I’d be cheaper getting a new laptop. However they did offer to recover up to 100 gig (I think) of my data, and put it on a USB stick. The total cost was to be around PS50: PS14 for the USB, and PS36 for the transfer. I decided I didn’t want to lose my other data, so left with the laptop, a little disappointed.

My friend bought me a hard drive case on eBay for PS6, removed the hard drive from my laptop, and slipped it into the casing, creating a portable one gigabyte hard drive that I can access from my new laptop.

Why did they not offer to do that?

Jem Computer Systems repaired a Windows PC for me some years ago with a home visit and I was most impressed and satisfied with the work. This week I took in an iPad which had “frozen” and which I thought might involve a very expensive repair being an Apple product. I spoke to Ryan who took the job on and 24 hours later I picked up the iPad, fully restored, with no loss of content and in excellent working order. The cost of repair was very reasonable.

This was excellent service, very quickly carried out and I would recommend Jem without question.

Yup, like these guys. Used to use 2000 RPM in Dundee but they were too big and customer serivce was dreadful. JEM are streets ahead, responsive, helpful, friendly and very efficient.
