Once registered, organising a repair under warranty was a relatively simple & easy process.
MendIT organised a courier to collect my PC, and gave helpful instructions & clarification for correctly packaging my PC which was hassle-free as I’d kept my PC’s original packaging from when I originally bought it.
In regards to the claim on their website:
“We pick up your device by courier, or accredited engineers repair it and return it to you in 5 working days”, that was not the case in my experience.
My PC arrived at MendIT on the 3rd of May, and was returned to me on the 15th of June.
6 weeks, or 30 working days, later my PC returned which was a disappointing time to wait, but the six update emails throughout the weeks helped assuage concerns that the repair might’ve been forgotten about.
Once my repaired PC was returned, I booted it up and checked the hardware just as a matter of course
I found that MendIT Replaced a Solidigm P44 Pro 2TB SSD with a Crucial P3 2TB SSD, which is not a like-for-like repair or replacement, in fact the Crucial P3 is significantly worse than the Solidigm P44 Pro in all metrics.
The Crucial P3’s stated Sequential Read speed is 3.500 MB/s, and its Sequential Write speed is 3,000 MB/s
The Solidigm P44 Pro 2TB’s stated Sequential Read speed is 7,000 MB/s, and its Sequential Write speed is 4,700 MB/s
The Crucial P3 is a PCIe 3.0 SSD, whereas the Solidigm P44 Pro is a PCIe 4.0 SSD, they’re not even in the same class in terms of performance.
At no point was I informed that the original SSD would be replaced with anything other than the exact same make & model SSD, only that it had been replaced in the Customer Repair Note which reads:
“Motherboard, CPU, GPU and SSD replaced. Windows 11 reinstalled. System turns on and displays fine. System updated and tested successfully.”
The Motherboard is the same make & model as it was originally, as is the CPU, and GPU (imagine if a 4070 Ti was replaced with a 3090 and marked as “repaired”).
The Hardware changes & reinstallation of the OS have made it so that the Windows 11 operating system is now a non-activated version of Windows, which I -may- be able to sort out with Microsoft support, but that’s something I’ll have to address once the SSD issue is resolved.
This is an incredibly disappointing thing to have happened on a Custom PC warranty repair, a -Custom- PC where each part was chosen specifically for its performance by me, the customer, the person who paid good money for those parts.
I can only hope that it was an unfortunate oversight/ mistake on MendIT’s part resulting in the SSD being replaced with a considerably inferior one, but if I wasn’t diligent in double-checking the Hardware as soon as the PC was returned to me, this error would have slipped right past me, and many other less-diligent customers.
I have reached out to MendIT to rectify this situation, but as it is currently the weekend, I have yet to receive a response.
