I have an old laptop that I wanted to install a different OS on (was GhostBSD to be some non StstemD Linux). 2 installs of different DebIan based distributions failed.

I took the laptop in to Mosman IT and asked for:

1. The BIOS to be updated (it needed a Windows install to do it from).

2. Run a PC hardware checker on the machine: most installation attempts failed with cryptic errors highlighting memory or (virtual) CPU being unresponsive.

What I got was the BIOS upgrade – good.

BUT, although the report notes CPU issues and other issues I was told about installing another Debian based (SystemD) distro (Ubuntu). No diagnostics run at all.

I picked up the laptop after a discussion of hardware diagnostics tools they use. It went right over their heads.

All I wanted was a hardware diagnostic run, all I got was a note that the SSD was fine – which I was in no doubt about.

$125 and I now have to find an operating system agnostic hardware diagnostic tool myself as well as an admission that something is wrong but we didn’t look to see what it is.

Mosman IT added insult to injury. Go there if you are clueless and they may be one level above you. Go there with specific needs and requests and you will just piss your money up the wall.

Prove me wrong if you want the Thinkpad back to finish the job.

Mosman IT are one of the few smaller reputable businesses that also specialise in fixing Mac laptops! They literally bend over backwards to accommodate any job no matter what the size! They have often picked up additional issues, however have always rang to check whether I want those additions to be included in the fix or not. Alice and Dave are super lovely, trustworthy and complete champs always explaining in great length the type of fix, and are very transparent and competitive on pricing. I highly recommend the business and their team!

Had very good experience for many many years. They have 5 stars service all the time and always friendly does not matter if only $2 job. My first recommendation to every one. They can service PC and Apple computer. And TV and electronics. All my friends and family members can not stop to go this shop if we have any computer or electronics problems.
