My Hi-Fi amplifier was locked out each time it powered on. I think the speaker leads had been shorted. At Oxford Powershop I was charged PS30 ‘inspection fee’. Subsequently the repair was estimated at PS85. When I declined, I was told the fault was not determined, “could just be a fuse”, and that the unit was very difficult to access; taking one hour to arrive at this (poor) diagnosis. Despite wanting to put my work locally, I have now sent my amplifier to a national service organisation.

I do not recommend Oxford Powershop. If you do use them, I suggest you negotiate a smaller ‘inspection fee’ to something more reasonable and demand to get a proper diagnosis in return. Please note they only accept cash, (or I believe a cheque); no credit cards. This means you have no redress via the consumer protection given by the credit card issuer.

Could not repair our vacuum due to its brand and difficulty of getting parts for it (so fault of brand, not service), but was great at giving me clear, friendly advice on best brands if you want a hoover that actually does what it should AND is repair-friendly when it doesn’t (recommended Sebo and Henry). Appreciated him being happy to chat me through that as can feel overhwleming, and have had both a Dyson and a Shark in last decade which have both broken and not easily repairable… Thanks!

Recently dropped in a 38 year old hifi amplifier with which I really don’t want to part company. Intermittent loss of signal on one channel. After some professional attention from Oxford Powershop I now have my music back. What’s not to like? This is a germ of a place, the likes of which have largely and sadly disappeared over the last few decades. Their pricing is very reasonable, the quality of work is superb, and on top of this they’re a friendly bunch. Recommended 150%.
