I dropped a laptop in here to get a quote to replace the keyboard and battery. Got charged $80 to “diagnose” the issue with keyboard (it had a dead key and beeped on start up). Got a call saying that the keyboard was fine and it was just a setting in the bios causing it to beep continuously on startup (which they supposedly fixed) and the hard drive was really slow so the keys took a couple of seconds to work. Got quoted $800 to repair, I said no. Got the laptop home and started it up and it still beeped on start up and the dead key was still dead.

I don’t know what kind of technicians they have working there but I doubt they know what they’re doing. They definitely didn’t listen to me when I told them it had a dead key and definitely didn’t fix what they said they fixed. The lady there seemed more interested in selling me a new computer. Seems like a bit of a scam to me. Easy $80 for them at the very least. I highly recommend finding someone else in Mackay if you need a computer fixed.

Update: I decided to try and fix it myself. I downloaded some software that checks if all drivers are up to date…. Turns out that was the only issue. Key board works, hard drive is fast, no more beeping on start up. I also found that they didn’t put my laptop back together properly and I had a huge buldge on my keyboard I had to fix. This was all free. THE LAPTOP MAN IS A RIP JOB AND INCOMPETENT.

I highly recommend The Laptop Man! Very knowledgeable guys, who explained what was happening with my computer at my limited tech level. Their quote had options that fit my budget, and I could make my choice without feeling pressured to spend more. I will definitely be calling them if I get into difficulties again.
And that dude at the front is a bit of a character, better than service with a smile!

Unhappy with the amount i’ve paid for a simple service. and I don’t recommend going there. I brought in a lenovo laptop and the man at the front counter was very disrespectful and took quiet a long time to get repaired. Perhaps if the man at the front showed more respect to customers then I would’ve considered giving it a 2 star review. Worst and rude service i’ve had in a while.
