Unpleasant surprise.

A 39 Euros bill for a ten-seconds diagnosis, the cost of which had not been communicated in a clear, well-intentioned way. Details below.

— My laptop fell and wouldn’t start again: a ‘disk read error’ message was prompted immediately after turn on.
— I passed by this place and asked the owner if he thought this could be repaired. He asked me to bring the laptop, which I did.
— He turned on the laptop, saw the message and said that the hard disk was broken and the data could not be recovered, but he could replace it and install the operative system for 200 Euros.
— I called my husband to check if it was worth, but he couldn’t answer. I told the owner I would check it with him later and bring the laptop back if necessary.
— He suggested I could leave it there. I found it reasonable and signed what I understood to be a receipt note.
— We finally decided not to repair the laptop, went back, handed in the receipt and got the laptop back.
— Two days later we got a 39 Euros bill in our mail.
— My husband went and asked if that was correct. It wa s. He made note that it seemed excessive for a ten-seconds diagnosis the cost of which had not been explicitly mentioned.
— He said I had sign the conformity when I left the laptop.

Note: All this occurred in German. Whereas I am not proficient in German, it should have been enough to understand the cost of the “diagnosis”, had it been communicated in a clear, well-intentioned way.

Schnelle Hilfe – absolut das, was ich wollte. Meine SSD war hin und Win bootete nicht mehr. Da ich keine Zeit hatte, mich selber zu kummern bin ich fix zu Wega gegangen.
