Took my 2019 MacBook Air for service (bootloop after trying to reset to factory iCloud settings and broken USB-C port). Was told there’s bugs and water damage so my laptop is a biohazard and they can’t work on it. Having this be my spare laptop, not used outside, and no bugs in my room I was skeptical. I had another expert remove the IO Board and inspect the laptop. No bugs, no water damage. When I asked the technician at microcenter to send pictures he sent me a picture of a smushed bug on a napkin. Not sure why or how this happened but sounds like the service center was busy and wanted to close a case fast. Really disappointed and was frightened because I thought I had some kind of bug infestation in my laptop/etc. pictures of my IO board removed for proof. TL:DR Microcenter charged me $40 and said whatever they had to say to not have to work on my computer (probably because they’re busy) and pocket $40.
I hadn’t been to this location in a few years, but I quickly remembered why I like this place so much. Tons of inventory, everything you need is probably in here. Employees are knowledgeable and very helpful. I actually went in for a service appointment for an Apple device. Michael Shine was the repair specialist/Apple Champion in charge of of fixing my device. He took the time to understand my device’s issue and did a great job communicating what the repair process would entail. Even though the store was closing in less than 2 hours from the time I dropped off my device, he was able to repair it in time for me to pick it up the same day. I was impressed by the quality and speed of service. I would not hesitate to take any of my devices back to Micro Center for servicing; they do an excellent job and care about their customers.
My first trip to Micro Center was memorable. I’ve been wanting to visit one for years, and it did not disappoint.
The biggest thing for me was the huge number of displays. Buying things like keyboards, mice, monitors, etc normally generally end up in you buying something online based off of reviews and photos, and hoping it’s what you had in mind. Here, you can see them all in person! I can, for example, type on a dozen different keyboards and see which one feels the best to me. I can physically see all the computer cases and really gauge the size and shape way better than measurements and photos online.
If you have even a modest interest in electronics, you have to take a trip here some time.
