I took my 2013 Macbook Pro Retina this morning after the fan started making really loud whirring noises last night. The fan sounded like it had run the course of its life. The Genius Bar was completely backed up with no appointments, so I made the quick run up to Evanston to have the computer looked at. Initially, they thought it might be 2-3 days to fix it, but I said I had some important work on a deadline. They were able to diagnose and fix the computer within 30 minutes. I’m still so impressed they could get me up and running again so quickly! Absolutely excellent service, and super nice people working there. It’s a cute shop not far off the purple line with lots of great artwork, and they’ll have my business forever.

I’m a longtime Apple guy and I think the support you get from the genius bar is great, although certainly less convenient than it used to be. That said, I will never go to an Apple store again because Pete and Lapin are more knowledgeable than anyone I’ve ever had at a genius bar, and waaay more available and helpful. Why would I not support a local, small business where I get better help and better advice? I only regret not realizing this before and making my life a lot simpler, a lot sooner. The ironic part is I was sent to Lapin by Apple because they were no longer servicing my 2015 laptop. But now I’m going to Lapin no matter what year my device is. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

My laptop battery had swollen and warped my laptop shell and track pad.

I took it to Lapin and after a quick analysis they were able to suggest a solution of a new battery and a new shell. They said it would be ready in a couple of days, but it was actually ready a day early! Now my mac is working like new again.

If we have issues with our mac’s in the future, we will definitely come back to Lapin. All of the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The place is clean and neat.
