In March 2024, I brought my laptop in because it had a battery issue. I was assured that my AppleCare would cover the repair. After a few days, I was informed that there was liquid damage, which I found surprising as my laptop had never been in contact with any liquids. Despite my initial shock, I paid the $299 repair fee because I needed my laptop back in working condition.
Unfortunately, three months later, my laptop refused to turn on again. I brought it back to the Apple Store, where I was told the repeated problem would be taken care of. However, after sending it to their repair center, I was once again told there was liquid damage. This time, the repair cost was quoted at an outrageous $1499, with no AppleCare coverage remaining. I was particularly frustrated when one staff member mentioned “coffee liquid damage,” especially since I do not drink coffee and my laptop has never been exposed to it.
The inconsistency in the diagnosis and the lack of clear communication are unacceptable. The initial repair should have resolved any issues, and I should not have to pay such an exorbitant amount for what appears to be a misdiagnosis or poor initial repair.
I urge others to be cautious when dealing with this store. My experience has been stressful, time-consuming, and financially draining. I expected better service and accountability from an Apple-certified store.
I had a MacBook screen issue that the Apple Store quoted me $1,497 before even taking a look. Like there was no choice, they wouldn’t even open it to diagnose for less.
MelroseMac charged $75 to diagnose (fair), then did a proper quote for the parts and labor. They let me choose a course of action. They ordered the part, tried it out, realized the repair was going to be a bigger, more expensive job and gave me the option to back out of the repair if I wanted to.
All with no hassle, all with a lot of respect. At Apple retail the actual employees are good people, but the company clearly doesn’t wanna deal with you if you’re not here to give them money for a new device. If I had a question halfway through the repair there, there would not have been anyone to talk to. I would’ve just been dinged for more than the cost of a new computer with no choice in it at all.
Even even though I ended up not getting my repair done right now, MelroseMac is where I want to come to buy new Macs/Apple devices/future repairs by default to reward the care and time they have for their customers.
For my MacBook the battery is old and dies when it’s not plugged in. It’s a super common issue with old MacBooks. The guy at the counter tells me in order to get it fixed I’d first need to do a $75 “diagnostic test”. Fun fact this is a scam and any Apple Store would never require that. I said do they do this at the Apple Store, to which he replied no. It’s clearly a scam for them to make money on a simple repair.
I said ok I’ll pass on that, for my iPhone I just need to replace the back screen. Again a very common thing. He told me they would need to hold the phone for 3 days while they ordered new parts. Again this is incredibly common repair. I said ok never mind and left. What a waste of time. I went to Sherman oaks Apple Store and got both repairs done on the spot. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. JUST GO TO APPLE STORE
