This will be rather long, but: I highly recommend Olympia Mac Repair. I wasn’t sure if I should go there because there were some mixed reviews, but after this experience I will be a lifelong customer (or for as long as I live in the area).

I’ll share what went wrong with my laptop in case that would be helpful. I have a 2015 MacBook Pro, which I bought refurbished in 2018 for $$$$. So I’ve owned it for 5 years. One day, I was using it no problem. The next day, the laptop would make the apple noise when trying to turn it on, but the screen remained black.

I first took it to Best Buy. The geek squad guy who was there was clearly trying to be helpful, but a little clueless. The most he did was try to hit keyboard combinations that didn’t work, and plugged it into an external monitor, where the screen was all white and the cursor appeared, which showed that the laptop’s trackpad was still working. He said he thought the laptop’s screen was broken (it had absolutely no obvious damage), and that it would likely cost over $1000 to fix it through them because they’d be ordering new parts through Apple. He recommended I go to 4th Dimension to see if they could do it for cheaper.

Next stop: 4th Dimension. They again tried to turn it on and plugged it into a monitor. But that’s all they did. They said they thought the motherboard was broken and needed to be replaced, or that the screen was broken and needed to be replaced. They said it would cost over $1000 to fix, so they recommended I just buy a new laptop. They offered to do data recovery on it for about $150-$200. I told them I wanted to get a second opinion, but that I expected to get the same answer and just take it back for data recovery. I was bummed.

Last stop: Olympia Mac Repair. I took the laptop to Olympia Mac Repair, described the problem, and within 5 minutes he had plugged it into his monitor, and pulled up recovery screens that neither of the two previous places had known how to (or bothered to) pull up. He did a quick test that told him the hard drive was damaged, and showed me on his screen a chart that displayed my hard drive function, explaining what it meant to me. He told me that data recovery would be extremely difficult due to how much the drive was damaged, but that he could send to to specialists he’s used before, which would be costly. He then told me what my options were: 1. Toss it and get a new laptop; or 2. Replace the hard drive in this one, and use it for approx. 4 more years until I can’t upgrade to the newest Mac OS. I opted to have him fix it and use it for ~4 more years. He quickly drew up a quote for the cost of fixing it, and then let me know that he could discount that cost if I wanted to use a hard drive he already had on hand that had less storage space than my previous one. I chose the discounted option, and he said he would have it ready in 2 days. 2 days!! This is much faster than anyone had previously told me was possible if I had gotten it fixed by them. He told me to wait to pay him until afterwards, and that anyone who charged upfront should not be trusted (helpful advice).

I picked up the laptop from him, which he showed me was working before I left. He even upgraded it to the newest OS for me. My total bill was a little less than $200 (but this will vary greatly depending on your laptop and situation). This was MUCH more affordable than any previous quote I had received, and the service was completed much faster, not to mention that he didn’t just do the bare minimum and then tell me to throw it away.

One thing to note: I was asked to give my laptop password and my contact information to him when I brought my laptop in. This was necessary in order for him to do the work he needed to do, and he seemed trustworthy, so I felt comfortable giving it to him. But be prepared to do this if you go there.

In summary, Kieran gave outstanding service. He was honest, knowledgeable, fast, affordable, and explained things. I highly recommend going to him for anyone who needs a Mac repair – don’t even bother with the other places.

My MacBook Air screen was broken. I live in olympia and had been calling mac repair stores in Seattle and Tacoma. Most of the stores I called would not even quote me unless I drove to the store. The stores that did quote over the phone, quoted me between 150 to 800 dollars and then would charge me a service fee of over 100 dollars just to look at it, although my screen was very easily described as being damaged and dented. After a month of driving and calling and being given the run around about quotes and additional costs, I found Olympia Mac Repair. He quoted me over PHONE, he replaced my screen in only 2 days. He charged me less than half of any of the competition, and on top of all that he replaced my chipped keyboard buttons for free. The service was absolutely unbelievable in price and in time. I wasn’t mislead or tricked into paying high fees. I was treated as a person and the quality of his work was definitely professional grade. DO NOT WASTE ANYTIME GOING ANYWHERE ELSE, this guy will help you!

After a frustrating experience at Best Buy informing me that my 9 year old IMac was obsolete and unrepairable, I was delighted to find Kieran at Olympia Mac Repair. After a few minutes on the phone, he identified the problem, gave me an estimate for repair and invited me to bring in my iMac. I brought it in on a Friday and picked it up the following Wednesday. Amazingly quick turnaround considering he had to order the parts. Kieran was very professional, listened to my questions, and took the time to not only answer them but to educate me on Mac operations in layman’s terms. He delivered excellent service at a very reasonable price and exceeded my expectations. I have been an exclusive Mac person since the late 80’s and would not hesitate to recommend Olympia Mac Repair.
