I had explained that I JUST received the PC from Japan and nothing would display; however the PC would turn on. I assumed, and told the tech, that it could be the power supply since the voltage in JP is different from the States.
They concluded that the GPU and power supply and a memory card were broken/bad/not functioning. (The bill was around 1700.00 to repair, including labor)
To process my claim with the military, I am required to have a shop fill out a form that implies that the computer was damaged in shipping.
I sent the form to this shop on July 25th- after they diagnosed it, with instructions, more details, in hopes they would fill it out.
I waited and heard nothing for 3 weeks.
I followed up 3 times via email and even spoke with someone a week ago regarding the same.
They said they would review it and get back to me.
Well they never did, so more time was passing.
I called into the shop afterhours and someone answered, advising because there’s no physical damage, that they would not be filling out the form.
When I tried to ask if they could see/investigate if the computer was turned on/functioned/etc before the move, to solidify any suspicion and they said they don’t do that.
Obviously I could not have this shop look at the PC before the move, it was purchased in Japan.
They said I was asking them to commit fraud, because my testimony and evidence of the computer not functioning is not enough to fill out the form.
I wouldn’t have minded that answer 3 weeks ago.
Now I am days from my claim being just flat out denied because of the delay.

Update on 8/28/2023 after Owner response (or whomever):
Thanks for responding; however, you missed the entire point.
I never discounted or disregarded your diagnosis or the work of the shop
I never asked your shop to lie on the form/put your Business’s credibility on the line, nor was the problem with the estimate itself- obviously your shop is not at fault for market value of items, I asked you to further investigate, to which, whomever I spoke to, said you guys do not do that as a PC repair shop (? lol)
I had sent many follow up emails/calls: July 25th, August 3rd, August 9th, and my final email on August 10th.
None of which were answered or confirmed they were received.
I finally got the form completed on August 16th- nearly a month after it was originally sent.
Yes there are a plethora of things that could’ve happened- I was not asking for an exact cause of what happened.
At the end of the day, I had a PC that was fully functioning before the move and after the move, it was not.
I do not work in IT, but there is surely a way to see that the PC was working before it left, since that seems to be the bottom line question, since obviously the shop did not see the computer- functioning- before the move.
Come on, bro, make it make sense.
My issue was the delay/miscommunication regarding a 2 page form that specifically asks if the cause COULD have been in transit, to which took a nearly a month to make it back to me- with the shop just radio silent. Had nothing to do with the diagnostic or the pricing.
I got a quicker response regarding this review than I did regarding the form.
I would like to mention that I bought a refurbished Lenovo Think Pad from Virgil, and had the memory upgraded. I now have a top-of-the-line business computer and I only paid 335 dollars. Periodically I will stop in to check out the computers they have for sale, and talk about different computer and tech topics. They have a very professional friendly environment.
I had a fatal hard drive crash in May 2023 dumping 10 years worth of documents, email and picture files + years of genealogy files.
Fortunately, Sam (owner) patiently recovered and restored all my important files, and installed an electronic solid state hard drive to minimize future risk. The job was not easy as Sam had to start the file/program recovery process from scratch. All went well as it did required visits to complete the process as my computer began in a completely different protocol as I’d upgraded from Win7 to Win10, so things became even more complicated.
In the future, Virgil Computer Repair will surely get all my computer business, they earned it the hard way…by diligence, patience, experience and expertise.
