Edit after Roobotech reply:
1. Parts quality
At no stage was I offered a choice between use of a poor quality aftermarket battery or OEM parts. At no stage did I request the phone to be repaired as cheaply as possible. The repair technician provided only one price point option. Roobotech’s website states it uses only OEM parts and that is what I expected to be used in the repair of my phone.
2. Communication
There was no miscommunication about the lifespan of the battery used to repair my phone. There was no miscommunication about the definition of OEM. The use of inferior quality parts to repair my phone was deliberate and the intention to use them was not disclosed to me. The blatantly wrong definition of OEM was provided to me intentionally by the store owner. His utterances were the very definition of disinformation.
Dear Roobotech, you lie and you lie and you lie and you just cannot stop lying.
3. Repair information
When I first presented the phone to the repair technician *I* pointed out the displacement of the screen to him. I already knew the battery was swollen, that was the reason I needed the battery to be replaced. When I presented the phone the screen was working perfectly; despite its displacement it was not damaged. Before paying the deposit to order the parts the technician made no mention whatsoever of the risk of screen damage when the battery was replaced. He only mentioned it when I returned after the parts had arrived to drop-off the phone for repair, that is, after I had paid $60 deposit for the parts. I have repaired phones before myself. I know what is involved. There is no risk of screen damage if the work is done carefully. I viewed the technician’s warning as a reflection of his skill level. It was also an invented get-out-of-jail clause – it implied that if he did damage the screen *I* would have to pay to have the screen *he* damaged to be replaced. Cute.
Dear reader, I reiterate my warning about this business:
They are a bunch of dissembling duplicitous subcontinental shonks.
Do not go near them with a barge pole.
Please be sure to read other one-star reviews. You will find a litany of complaints about the use of cheap poor quality knock-off parts. Do not buy refurbished phones from this disreputable business.
I recently attempted to purchase a new phone from Roobotech and had an extremely bad experience. Despite fully paying for my order, including postage, they refused to send my purchase unless I provided photo ID. I refused to send sensitive information like my passport or driver’s license to a total stranger, which I believe is a reasonable stance.
In all the years and thousands of transactions I’ve made online, I have never been asked for photo ID. The situation escalated over the phone, where they continued to refuse to send my products, even though I verified my details. My frustration grew to the point where I requested a refund and stated I would take my business elsewhere.
Roobotech never attempted to rectify or resolve the issue and offered no apology. Instead, they made matters worse by accusing me of providing the wrong address, despite my having verified the address with them over the phone. Their insistence on photo ID despite my verification is unacceptable.
I have never had such a bad experience in all my years of online transactions. I will never recommend Roobotech to anyone, ever.

Update 21/8/24: This is in response to Roobotech’s reply of 16/8/24 to my (above) review dated August 7th. I feel it’s necessary to clarify the situation due to Roobotech’s attempt to justify their fraudulent behavior. Although I’ve moved on, I won’t allow them to whitewash their faults.
Your attempt to cover up your error with excuses is transparent. We’ve been doing business with PayPal for years, using the same address without any issues. The problem is not with us, but with your approach. Instead of trying to save face, it’s time to swallow your pride and move on–just as we have.
We quickly found another business, made our purchase using PayPal with our same long-standing address, and received superb service–without the absurd request for photo ID or baseless allegations of an unverified address. Besides, it is not your position to verify our address with PayPal.
Continuing to justify your actions only makes things worse. Who would trust a company that demands sensitive documents like ID? Your actions raise red flags about potential identity theft or even criminal fraud. Consumers, beware!
Cons:
– Wouldn’t sell me the phone at discussed price.
– Tried to convince me that the network connection issues were not the phone.
– Would not replace or fix phone due to connection issues.
– Service was poor, slow, and awkward when replacing the phone after complete battery failure.
– Would not replace screen protector with replacement phone.
– Aesthetic condition of the phones were not excellent.
Pros:
– Phone was a reasonable price.
– Did eventually replace phone under warranty after complete battery failure.
– Replacement phone still works after a year.
