The store attendant was initially easy to speak to and assured me that he would be able to diagnose the issue in a few days, two weeks later he determined that the issue was the motherboard which had unfortunately gotten thermal paste in the CPU socket causing issues. He advised that I purchase a motherboard through him and recommended a motherboard, however there was a specific one I was after and I wanted to purchase it myself. Before I did, I sent him the link (of the motherboard I wanted) to ensure that it would be compatible with my system, to which he confirmed. He also advised I buy a new case which I thought was fair enough considering mine wasn’t the best. The first issue I had this job, was that he tried telling me that my PC only had one NVME SSD installed, but it had two and a SATA SSD. I had to point out the second NVME SSD, which was just below the first one. He stated that he missed it because he had never heard of the brand before, which I thought was not a reasonable excuse as it’s fairly obvious to a ‘professional’ if an NVME SSD has been installed. But I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt.
When I got the case and motherboard, I gave them to him still packaged. However after another week, I visited the store and he told me that I had ordered the wrong motherboard (I ordered the one I sent to him which he confirmed was correct) and again suggested I buy one through him. The issue with the motherboard was that it was not pre-configured for an i9 14900K so it didn’t produce a display, but it was still compatible with my CPU, it just needed a BIOS update. The second issue was that the motherboard heat sinks were blocking my GPU from slotting in correctly. I agreed to buying one through him, though he had a black motherboard which didn’t match my white case and charged more than the motherboard I had bought (which was actually a better one). He also broke my fan HUB blaming that it was soldered poorly and offered a replacement at my own cost, not once did he offer to replace it since he broke it.
After another week, I returned to the store to pick up the PC which was when red flags appeared. The fan only had three fans installed on the AIO cooler in front of the case and no other fans. For context, I originally had 6 fans installed in my system, which is fairly standard (one at the back, two on top and three at the front). He tried to tell me my system didn’t need more than three fans, which is when I realised that this person was not a professional and didn’t care about producing a quality-built PC. He tried to give me back the fans I had given him but I said that he should have installed all the fans I gave him, and he reluctantly agreed.
After another two days, I returned and was astounded to find that several of the fans he had installed were back-to-front creating poor and useless air-flow in the system and the PSU was installed upside-down. In addition, the fan HUB that I purchased to replace the one he broke, didn’t control RGB like he said meaning it was a complete waste of money as the whole point of why I wanted a HUB was to control the RGB fans. I didn’t want to deal with the ‘professional’ anymore as I knew that I could fix the fans myself and the PC still worked. When I returned home, I realised that my case should have come with two fans, as most do (I have the receipt to prove it), turns out he kept them and never told me. He still has those fans and never informed me that he had kept them.
After some of my own tinkering I was able to rectify the fans but I have to purchase another fan HUB if I want to control the RGB in my system.
Overall, this was a complete waste of money, if you’re a PC enthusiast like me, just trust yourself and try and diagnose it yourself.
Highly recommend Ken to others who seek help with their devices.
