I visited your store earlier today to look at one of the items. Whilst waiting patiently for a staff member to serve me, I pointed at the item I was interested in (a camera on display). I am a professional photographer/videographer so have had mixed experiences through the years purchasing items second hand, which meant that for obvious reasons, I wanted to see the camera tested with a lens that was also in your shop to ensure there was no hidden issues with it. (I did not have any interest in the lens, all I cared about was that the camera worked). However, when I questioned using a lens in the store to test it with, the person behind the counter insisted that “it is against store policy to have 2 items out at the same time.”
Now as a photographer / videographer, I did not carry any of my own personal gear to try out the camera today as I did not want to risk my own gear being damaged by a faulty item or being stolen as your store is based in a busy shopping centre. In the end, I was unable to test out the camera (therefore unable to confidently purchase it) because I wasn’t allowed to see it and ensure that there weren’t any problems with the camera e.g. the sensor was not damaged or the autofocus wasn’t in working condition. The worker was extremely determined in not letting me have a closer inspection of it. Considering I wouldn’t be able to see anything without the lens attached to the camera, (nor having the camera being held by me, the employee insisted that it would be turned on behind the counter and I would not be allowed to hold and inspect it myself) I was unable to safely purchase the $2600 camera, as I am not going to spend that money on a second hand item that I am not absolutely certain works as it should. What is the point of inspecting something when you won’t let customers test expensive items to ensure they work? I could understand not wanting such items to become damaged from testing or stolen, but perhaps policy should be amended for circumstance as such.
And employee giving a final ” its against policy” isnt good enough unless they are a expert in that range of tech products that you carry.
Went there twice to trade in a laptop. First time i was turned back because i was lied to in saying that the laptop will take two hours to test and there is not enough time in the day. (FYI they weren’t that busy at all when i went there just multiple staff members twiddling their thumbs not like they didn’t have the time to run tests).
So i went back the next day at an earlier time, just to get turned back because a little bit of adhesion tape was visible on the boarder of the screen. After applying a little bit of pressure the tape wasn’t visible and the issue was fixed, the laptop was good as new but i was still turned back.
In a second attempt to sell my laptop i went to a different store, Parramatta CEX. They accepted the laptop right away , did testing in 15 minutes! i was shocked that i was lied to, and was appraised for the laptop in mint condition.. Whilst waiting for the testing i was viewing other laptops and noticed multiple cracks in these laptops so clearly, it doesn’t even have to be mint condition to be approved. I think the staff at Burwood just love being an inconvenience to people, wasted a lot of my time across two days, both commutes to Burwood and parramatta stores aren’t small Thankyou parramatta store for displaying great customer service!
